Ticket QR Codes Done THE Right WAY

How can we say our ticket scanners are more reliable? Simple really, we eliminate all the points of failure so your tickets scan right every time.

Failure Point #1: You must have dedicated internet and be logged into your vendor’s ticket portal to scan tickets.

That’s a problem when you have everyone at the event on their smartphones using up your bandwidth. So how do you prevent your scanners going off-line?

Solution: Our ticket scanners do not need the internet and we supply a secure private wireless network only for our scanners. The scanners also have a complete list of your tickets which is synced across all scanners every minute, so your scanners will NEVER go off-line.

Failure Point #2: Your ticket QR code is a link to a website, not a secure ticket code

There are so many things wrong using ticket QR codes as a link to your website, here are the 3 obvious problems.

Anyone can decode the QR code and find out valuable information about your tickets that can compromise security at your event. For example here is a QR code with a check-in URL:

By looking at this any person wishing to compromise security at your event now knows which WordPress add on you are using, the event ID, order ID and other pieces of information that they should not have access to. A hacker can use this information to their advantage and access your ticket website from any web browser.

Solution: The QR code must only be an index or pointer to ticket information stored in a secure database. In the above example, only the security code f8af8451 should be embedded in the QR code so anyone reading the QR code does not get any additional information about your website or ticketing system.

Secondly, let’s revisit your first point of failure. Your smartphone has to be logged onto your vendors portal to check in your tickets. This means that your online ticket portal is queried every time a ticket is scanned. When you have more than 500 people all arriving at your event at the same time your scanners will be very slow, and may even stop responding if you crash your ticket website. Using an online ticketing system you can expect to check-in tickets at a rate of 1 ticket per second.

Solution: We provide all the computer hardware and software you need on site, including box office sales, so your ticket data is stored securely on-site at your event in a robust and secure database that is only accessed by our scanners. With our on-site solutions you can scan tickets at the rate of 20 tickets per second.

Thirdly, this is technically the most inefficient use of code scanning technology.
